Tamim ton sends Tigers thru'

Opener Tamim Iqbal became the first Bangladeshi to hit a T20 century as the Tigers easily defeated Oman by 54 runs in a rain-hit match on Sunday to book their place in the Super 10 of the World T20 2016.

After Tamim's 103 set Bangladesh to a big total of 180 for 2, rain forced the game to stop on a number of occasions, curtailing the tie to a 12-over affair.

Shakib Al Hasan bagged four wickets then as Oman could only manage 65 losing nine wickets and the Tigers sealed a win in D/L method. The four-wicket haul is certain to boost the morale of Shakib, who has not been enjoying the best of the times of his career.

The win was so emphatic that skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza could hand the ball to Sabbir Rahman to bowl the last over (12th) and the batsman who rarely bowls did pick up a wicket as well.

It was a great day for the Chittagong lad who surpassed his own best of 88, scored against the West Indies in 2012, which was so far the highest T20 score by a Bangladeshi.

Tamim also made 83 against the Netherlands in the first match of the tournament, but that day he failed to touch the magic figure.

However, he made it this time around as he blasted 10 fours and 5 sixes in his 103-run innings, hit in just 63 balls. No wonder he was adjudged the man-of-the-match.

Sabbir Rahman also smashed 44 off 26 balls courtesy of five fours and a six, but he was unlucky to miss out on a fifty as a Khawar Ali delivery clipped the bails of his leg stump.

Shakib Al Hasan fired 17 in 9 deliveries in the end as Bangladesh posted a gigantic total for the tournament's surprise package Oman.

The Tigers will now face India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Australia in the Super 10 for a place in the semifinals.
